I feel your pain...how on earth can you pick just one rimfire as a favorite? Tough indeed. But with that lineup...including wheel guns and a lever action...who can argue? A "problem" we all can appreciate. Ha! :ROFLMAO:

Well the original question was "favorite riimfire caliber" technically not favorite rimfire firearm.
So it narrows down the field.
Ok. You got me! My "youthful exuberance" (can one still claim exuberance when you are a septuagenarian? 🫤) got the best of me and while gazing at the recent postings my thoughts raced... So, my favorite rimfire caliber...? It would have to boil down to the 17HMR. The inherent accuracy and its ability to reach out and "touch" all manner of critters makes it quite versatile.

Here is my Anschutz 1517 D HB chambered in 17HMR while thinning out a few Richardson's Ground Squirrels. What this picture doesn't show are the Golden Eagles circling overhead, patiently waiting for me to move further to the south so they can feast on the resulting carnage.

CZ 457 with Lija 17 Mach 2 barrel mmmm just magic when suppressed on prairie dogs, nearly silent

I have many fine 22 LR, 22 WMR, 17 HMR and 17 WSM, but the 17 HM2 is my favorite
Been thinking about getting a 17machII barrel from Lilja and getting it threaded. Thinking the smaller diameter helps, but how bad is the sonic Crack?
Matt

I shipped my Savage A17 Sporter .17 WSM back to Savage for warranty repair. Along with the note stating the problems with the rifle was another note with $20 clipped to it and addressed to the fix it folks. Note said many thanks for fixing my rifle and lunch is on me. My rifle was returned sporting a nice rail instead of the previous two mount blocks. The two blocks were in the return box in a small plastic bag. I discovered the rifle operated great except the trigger needed adjusted and the small adjustment tool could not be found so I called Savage and they are mailing the tool, free.

If I could only have one of my five choices it would have to be .17HMR in this Ruger American Target.

This gun is amazingly accurate with Hornady 17g V-max, CCI 17g Speer TNT, and Federal Premium 17g Speer TNT.

Paul, that proves that great minds think alike!

My Anschutz 1517D HB sees action in the rat patch and for certain places locally for rockchucks where the sound of a CF rifle is a bit much for the local inhabitants. Sweet rifles in a most interesting rimfire caliber that really works as advertised.

The 17HMR is accurate enough for head shots on chucks under 200 yards in "the hood".

The 17HMR for sure is my favorite rimfire caliber.

I will always love the 22RF cartridge. I started shooting 22rf when I was 8 years old and I have literally shot 100s of thousands of 22RF rounds, most were shooting gophers. No other cartridge could I ever of afforded to shoot anywhere near that much. I got my first 22 Mag at 16 and it worked great on Beaver, but the ammo for it was 5 times the price of 22 RF. Same when I got a 17 HMR and a 17 Mach 2 when they came out. Great cartridges for reaching out further, but a LOT more expensive. Despite the cost, I have worn out 3 17 HMRs shooting gophers. Hard to dislike any rimfire cartridge, low noise, no recoil and good performance.
