Some Idaho Rockchuck Hunting

I had a chance to go on my first solo hunt for rockchucks last week. I took my R.A.W. HM1000 Mini airgun and was able to get my first kill at 137 yards with my Anschutz Model 1517 chambered in 17HMR I picked-up last year. It's topped with a Nightforce NX-S 2.5-10x42mm scope. Lastly, it's equipped with a AB Suppressor Little Bird Suppressor, which makes shooting this rifle so nice and quiet! This is such a great set-up!

62 Yards - Headshot!:

The stock is from the Anschutz North America custom shop and was sold new on the rifle when I bought it last year. It was new, but old stock and had been sitting on the shelf for a while. I got a killer deal on it!

The suppressor is my favorite rimfire suppressor, the AB Suppressor Little Bird. It is very quiet and weighs nothing. It is a great can!

Thanks!

I'd really like to have that T/H stock on my 1715 Annie 17HMR so went to the Anschutz custom shop website. Saw it there listed for......$875!
That's more than I paid for my rifle for crikey-sakes! True, it came from our local pawn shop, but geez, that just seems unreasonable.

Guess I'll 'suffer' with the factory stock for the foreseeable future, as it seems to be working just fine and the squirrels and rockchucks don't seem to mind at all. ;)

Rick, it's only $875. In my thrifty opinion, that's a lot of stock with very functional angles in this day and age.
I love vertical grips, so I'm somewhat biased. ;)

Sieg, yes, it's "only" $875 then another $125 or so for the needed bottom metal. This stuff adds up quickly!
I'll most likely do the T/H stock switch, but holy moly, that's quite the hit.

That's somewhat cheap compared to MDT, KRG, Manners, Grayboe's commercially esthetic offerings. ;)
Well, I suppose the word "cheap" has different meanings to different people. That's still a chunk of change to me, as being into geezerhood, I remember what prices used to be compared to what stuff goes for now.....a LOT more.

But I've relented, and next week I'm going to order the stock and bottom metal from Anschutz N.A. as I've got the cash in my secret squirrel gun-fund at present. Didn't want to blow that much cash, but I love the T/H stocks I have now, and one on my Annie would put a permenant smile on my face.

I'm sure the squirrels and rockchucks will be impressed too! ;)

Yeah, smile while you can there Rocky, you're on the list.....;)

....... "and one on my Annie would put a permanent smile on my face."
EXACTLY!

If it makes you feel better, yesterday I found a 2022 C8 Z51 Corvette for a friend. 6,800 miles, never washed or driven in the rain. Borla exhaust and aftermarket wheels +1" from stock. I only dinged him $73,000.

Whoa....73K?
Yeah, I feel much better now.

That was a rare find for sure in that condition. Hey, if he can afford it, why not? Good for him! (y)

Well, you guys are hard on my wallet! Eric, you're the one who caused all this ruckus with that pic of your Annie and the rockchuck! And Sieg, you didn't help at all helping me saving any money. Both of you go to your room! ;)

This morning with CC in hand, I called Anschutz and got my thumbhole stock and bottom metal on the way. With any luck regarding UPS, I'll have it here and my barreled action dropped in and field ready before the rockchucks and sage rats go down for their end of season siesta. With all the grass getting long by this time of year, it'll be a tripod event next outing.

Looking forward to my Annie 1517 HB 17HMR taking on a new life in the world of rockchucks and ground squirrels. One last look of her in her old stock prior to getting all dressed up for the prom....

BTW, gun forums are not known to be helpful in regards to any effort to save money!

On my death bed, I won't regret motivating your decision on this one. 😘

We have quite a few expert enablers here and the reality is I wouldn't want it any other way. Rick I bet you will absolutely get way more enjoyment out of that new stock for long after the price paid was forgotten. 😉
Matt
I prefer Instigator, in the positive sense.

Enablers tend to have a negative impact on people's lives in the long run. I have a couple family members that are pros at the craft, their kids are proof. 😁
