As most of you know, there is a huge issue with scammers taking advantage of people who use classifieds to buy, sell and trade their items. Small Caliber Forum is NOT responsible for any scam that takes place. Although we try our best to keep spam/scam accounts from being created and having access, there is always a chance that one may slip through. SCF recommends taking the following steps to prevent being scammed:
- Never include personal contact information in your post.
- We recommend that you always have a telephone conversation with the person you are dealing with. Text messaging is often used to scam people.
- Request custom photos. For example, have them include a sheet of paper with your username and date in the image, partially covered by the item.
- Never use electronic forms of payment (ie: Venmo, Zelle, Paypal, etc), unless you personally know the person you are dealing with.
- Beware of fake usernames that try to mimic known members. This is a frequent way to dupe people.
- Check the Vouch post to see if the person you are dealing with has been given a positive or negative review.
- When in doubt, don't make the deal.
