Tree Squirrel Hunting

My favorite hunting place on the Mississippi River bluff not far from my home on the same bluff. Rife is my Savage BMAG .17 WSM.

My favorite long rang squirrel gun is my Savage walking varminter in 17khornet.
And when it's on my slik Tripod, 100 yard shots thru the woods is fun. But ya gotta have a dog to help find them after ya drop them. Lol

I probably should. I've got enough projects going that I need to get sorted. Plus I've got a 17 k hornet and really don't NEED another smaller one. Lol

What gr bullet do you use? Some think we are over-kill hunters but the truth is we hunt differently and are long distance shooters at squirrel eyes. And we don't have .22 crawl-offs.
We are also better equipped for large varmints that happen along.

Ive had great results using the 20 grain Varmint Nightmare X-Treme flatbase HP.
Very accurate and does wonders on small and large critters out to 300 yards.

Many are convinced using a round much more powerful than .22 rimfire is overkill. Nope. That idea is a narrative violation. In a nutshell, it means a lot of people think something evidence does not support.

The same argument applies to .22 shooters themselves. Some swear the .22 magnum is better than a .22 long rifle as for hunting the same game.

I progressed from pellet guns to .17 WSM rifles with no regrets, as many more are doing.

Use whatever floats your boat. 😊

My Savage A17 Sporter .17 WSM rifle was shipped back to Savage for some warranty repair work two weeks ago and a very nice Fed X driver delivered the rifle to me this afternoon. I was shocked, not expecting such quick service.
Rifle action is smooth as silk and also along within the box was a work sheet of completed work on the rifle. Needless to say, I am greatly impressed with their work.
I have three Savage .17 rifles and they are very accurate.
