AR-17

Years ago and in the time of the coyote gods, I went in on a group build from Matt Salm. He put together a rock river arms, national match lower with a flat top upper spouting an 18 inch medium weight Lothar Walther tube, 1/9 twist chambered in 17 Remington. It shoots quite well and really liked Starke 25 grain pills. Those are long gone and I need to sit down, find another load and build some more. If I had to do it over again, I would’ve had him chamber it in the 17/223 and then I wouldn’t have to worry about chasing brass. If the day ever comes where I can get a suppressor without going through the hoops, I’ll have this one threaded. But for now it’s a matter of contention.

You gots a pic fur us?
Ive got a AR-17 i built but it's a single shot. I had a bunch of parts and time to waste.
So i used a 55% lower which i called it because unlike the 80% lowers. It didn't have the mag well cut out or the trigger group done either.
Also made my own bolt handle for side charging. I wish I would have made it LH side charging.

Call it Frank for short.

17 KAK. 223 necked down to 17. 5000 fps. Cycles in the AR like butter. Eric Mayer has tons of information about the setup. Just as simple as a barrel change.

That explains a lot...........12.5gr versus a "standard" 25gr 17 caliber projectile.

I've only fired 25gr and heavier bullets in the larger case capacities.
At about 3800 to 4000fps......bore fouling starts becoming more of a problem. Of course, bore quality, bore geometry, bore finish, barrel age, case capacity, rounds between cleaning, and total rounds deserve consideration.

At such high velocities.......I'd expect to onset of severe bore fouling to occur much sooner than expected.

I'll have to check on the BC of the 12.5gr bullets.
