BEAR Creek Bolt action upper 17 5.56 KAK build?

So I'm strongly considering buying one of the Bear Creek Bolt actual n AR uppers, and installing a KAK 17x5.56 barrel on it. Seems like a cool way to get into a 17 x5.56 KAK without the hassle of reloading for a semi automatic rifle ( I've never had much luck reloading for an AR.

It is apparently a bolt action only upper. No gas system. They have made an adaptor to block off the gas port on regular AR barrels as well. Basically it could be a cool way to get into the 17-556 KAK at a reasonable price. I'm thinking pull the barrel off the Bear Creek upper, slide in the KAK barrel. Install the adaptor to close off the gas port in the barrel, and start load development. All for around $750 if you have an AR-15 lower with a good trigger.

So as long as 17-556 uses same gas block dia you'll be gtg.
Was contemplating get at 17 kak barrel and put it on Frank and get rid of the 17 Remington.

KAK makes their own barrels. Their equipment is the type that gets fed very long steel barrel stock, then cuts, chambers, threads, etc, until the barrel stock is used up. (Layman's terms).

I bought one of the Bear Creek actions for this reason. I'll be putting it together next month for ground squirrels. I'm also going to have an older .223 Remington rebarreled to. 17-5.56 KAK. KAK is selling reamers now.

I ran into one ( BCA bolt action) at a gun show yesterday. Seems like a little polishing of the bottom of the bolt handle should make it a pretty smooth action.

Yep. It's not terrible. I'm pushing the Hornady 15.5 grain NTX bullets at 4433fps in my 18" AR15. I'm hoping to increase those speeds with this "bolt-action". I also have a .223 bolt-action rifle that will be rebarreled and chambered for the .17-5.56 KAK. I will push that one to the limits of pressure and speed!
