Favorite 20

My favorite 20 has to be the 204R. I fact, I like it sooooo much that I now have 4 of them - Cooper MTV, Kimber 84M, CZ American and CZ Varmint. If I was "forced" 😉 to add one more 20, it would have be the 20VarTarg because of the reputation it has. The only thing holding me back is I don't (yet) reload and without a reliable source of ammunition, I'm afraid the rifle would sit in my gun safe taunting me. I know what many are probably thinking...the lack of reloading components is easily fixed...I'm just not quite ready to make that transition. Someday maybe...

You guys are a terrible influence!
Reading all the above makes me want to build another .20 caliber rifle, but as I'll be officially into 'Geezerhood' this year (80! :o), I've told myself no more new rifles or calibers!
As it is now, when prepping for a week in the outback shooting sage rats, I ponder what rifles I'll take, and it seems I always come home with at least one or two that didn't get shot that trip. Hence my new self-applied rule. (We'll see how that one works out.....)

So at present, my .20's are:
Sako M75 Varmint 204
Kimber 84M 204
Cooper M21 MTV 204
M700 Custom 204 Match 11T
Cooper M38 Varmint 20VT

I've got a Sako L461 Vixen in the safe currently wearing a Shilen 17M4 barrel that never impressed me with its accuracy. Boyd's laminated T/H stock with a Canjar single set trigger. Pondering a re-barrel to another 20VT 'just cuz'. One can't have too many Vartargs, right? (And it won't be a 'new rifle'. See how I did that? Didn't violate my new self-imposed rule!)

And to MTPaul....come on buddy, you know you'll end up reloading eventually, so buck up, get started on a minimal basis and take the Vartarg plunge! I promise you'll be glad you did!

Aaron this favorite business is dang near impossible to say. Just about all of my 20s have pulled off shots that just seem beyond what a little bullet should be able to do. The ones that haven't aren't their fault because I haven't shot them all yet. So far my 20s consist of:
5mm Contender 10"
Cooper m21 MTV 20VT
Cooper m21 20VT VE English wood done by GreTan
BAT SV 20 Duster by GreTan
Sako A1 20 Duster heavy pd gun
Sako A1 20 Duster fluted coyote sporter
Rem 700 20AR (20 Tac imp) coyote rifle by GreTan
2 XR100s 204
Ruger 1B 204
Cooper MTV 204
Nesika J 1.700 20BR by GreTan
Stiller 20 Dasher by GreTan
I also have a 20BRA barrel for my BAT and plan on an XP in 20ppc in the near future. The ones that haven't been shot yet are simply new acquisitions.

Matt - You have certainly amassed quite the collection of diverse 20s. To say I'm envious would be an understatement. Congratulations! It makes me wonder though...how large a gun safe do you have or perhaps do you have several safes? With a collection of 20s that large, how often does each one get the chance to see the light of day?

Envy here too Paul, and I have the same conundrum when preparing for a trip to the outback for rats......which rifle(s) to take? Too many choices makes it harder every season. Bringing home un-shot rifles makes me wonder why I take so many, but the axiom "I might 'need' this one" always is a factor.

Too many rifles, too many calibers.....talk about a First World Problem! We've never had it so good.

I go buy the rule, "Its better to have and not need it than not have it and need it!" 😉

Paul, very good point. As I typed out my list of 20s I started to think why do I need some many and realized I definitely have a problem. Thankfully I have four safes and cleaning, shooting take most of my waking hours. I have a nice range nearby and try and go very often. The trick now is to get back west and hunt pds and rock chucks again.
Like Rick said first world problems 😉

I suppose we could have worse pressing problems to deal with...finding food, shelter, security and more...rather than trying to find enough time to play with our respective "toys" and keeping up with the proper maintenance regime. We are all fortunate to have such challenges in our day-to-day lives. ;)
