Hi, a friend of mine that was on Saubier with me just told me about this forum so I thought I would join up. Saubier was a treasure trove of great information and great members with a ton of knowledge. I am sure this place will be too. I went by Dean2 there, as I do on all forums I belong too.

Richardson ground squirrel. What us Canucks call gophers up here. They are down your way as well I believe.

Greg, that's a HUGE squirrel! Looks more like a prairie dog.
That critter is bigger than any of the California ground squirrels, Belding's or Richardson's I've ever seen.....and I've seen a lot of squirrels. You must feed them well, mate!
When I lived in BC, we shot squirrels/gophers too, but back then I didn't know what 'brand' they were. Might of been Richardson's, dunno. Nonetheless, that's one large ground rat. The lass in the pic did a fine job!

She’s got the hold out the fish for effect picture taking skills sorted out!
We don’t have much for black tailed prairie dogs in Alberta. Maybe some in the SE corner, maybe some in southern Saskatchewan in Grasslands park but either way they are protected as they are almost extinct. We shoot ground squirrels. I think that photo was of a male in early season. She enjoys arrowing them.

I have never seen one but I'll agree that's a big'n! I assumed they were the size of our gophers or chipmunks here in Indiana.
Those look to be more the size of grey squirrels.

He’s definitely a chunky boy! Weight watchers for him! I would say he is the size of a 17 oz soda bottle. I would say most are half to 3/4 his size normally.

This is the average size of the Belding's we have around here in the alfalfa:
When we're out bench shooting squirrels (Skippy), it's always a good idea to have a rimfire pistol handy for those "sneakers".
Hello to all , My name is Tim , I'm from north central OH , I have 2 .17Rem Fireball 1 .221 Rem Fireball and a .20 Vartarg in the works these are my most fun rounds , low recoil , low noise , and do what I need them to do accurately , also just got a TC Contdender in .221 with a 10" barrel .
I shoot a few groundhogs and will be taking up coyote hunting soon .

I was bitten hard by the small caliber bug 20+ years ago when the other forum was up.
Ended up with a lathe and minimill to satisfy all the rifle plumber urges and forego waiting for gunsmiths .
So Far have made 17AH, 17X223AI, 20 Vartarg, 20X223AI, 20Grendel, 20 BRX, 20X250, 221 FB and 221FBAI, 223AI, 22 Grendel ......as well as a bunch of much bigger stuff including 50BMG ackley .
and as you can see my picture posting foo needs some work, sorry

My nickname is Sieg (Like SIG), I was born and still reside in Lane County, OR.
My father bought me a Benjamin .22cal pump air rifle in '68 and I've been hooked on shooting critters ever since. (Still have the Benjamin)
My current rifle calibers are .17M2, .17HMR, .17 WSM, ,17FB, 5.7x28, .22LR, .22WMR, .223Rem, and .308Win. Pistol calibers are 22LR, 5.7x28, .223, .38, 9mm, .40SW, 10mm, .44Mag, and .45ACP.
I've been reloading on and off since 1984, someone told me how much money save back then.........
Anyway, I look forward to the on-line comradery and info-sharing with like-minded individuals.
