RCBS .17 Hornet

I have been reading that RCBS ceased production of the .17 Hornet (Hornady) dies, was there anything wrong with them that they ceased production or was it just not a fast moving item?

I've found a RCBS 17 Hornet resize die pretty cheap but I don't want to buy it if there is a problem with them.

Im half tempted to get the 77/17 Hornet from Ruger while they are still available to match my 17WSM and scrounge up some dies later. Thanks for prompting me to rethink this subject Kiwi. I still haven't bought myself a Christmas present yet 😉

RCBS was the most expensive die on the shelf. Blew my mind so I took a picture.

I suspect that there is not a great deal of demand for 17HH dies so RCBS dropped that die. I have Redding dies in that cartridge. I like both RCBS and Redding dies and probably bought what was available several years ago. My 17HH rifle is an Anschutz 1771. It’s a very spendy rifle, but super accurate. It’s a terrific PD rifle on days with moderate wind.

Ok I asked RCBS as they don't list the #21829 .17 Hornet full length die as a separate item, they list a neck sizer (#21830) and a full length set (#21801)
I decided to take the gamble on the full length die and paid $35 for it, I'm assuming it's for the .17 Hornady Hornet and not a standard hornet necked to .17

I found Reddings for less than that and ordered them, used to buy lots of RCBS but then Russ Haydon told me that RCBS was made offshore so I have been seeking Redding since then, got a fair amount of both, Wilson inlines are producing my best reloads usually. I still cant get over how accurate the little 17 Hornet is.

I have many Redding, RCBS and Forster, but I had a bad experience with Redding Customer Service and absolutely fantastic service from RCBS, above and beyond service really, which made me realign my thinking and support.
I haven't really found any problems with any of the equipment and dies I've bought from any manufacturer.

I miss Russ, he was always great to deal with

Wilson inline dies are the best you can buy, and I have been using them for 30+ years. Since I don't have a rust problem here, I usually buy the steel dies without the micrometer top and machine them for a micrometer top and fit one I make out of barrel stubs. Before I started buying Wilson dies Sinclair used to offer a service to modify seating dies in this way, I even have some of them.

Hmmm Think I've seen that ugly yellow rifle before. Probably a 20-222

Sure is. Got a 22 ARC. Great fun on dogs when we can shoot. So dry here hate to go out in the fields.
Welcome to the forum Jim, it's great to have you here.
The 22 ARC is a good cartridge for that, do you have a pic?
We must be getting all your rain as it's been quite wet here
