i was definitely a 17 caliber day, no wind which is rare around this old desert. does anyone know where i can get an adjustable twist barrel? God knows i need one. the first 2 groups are with Hornady 25 gr hollow points at around 3735 fps. as you can tell they didn't shoot well at all. these bullets were weighed to be within .005 of each other to take any weight variable out of the equation.
as you can tell from the picture some of them are heeling over. the last picture are 20 gr vmax and ( idiot deleted the picture) Berger 20 gr hp, was the same size as the 20 gr vmax. the squares are 1". the 25 gr hp is the same box that the (third picture)17-556 kak was showing a 7 o'clock tail on the target. side note some 20 years ago i had a conversation with walt Berger about that lil tail. He said, (that's the jacket starting to come apart and shed molten lead. he told me to speed them up a little and they wouldn't make it to the target. i did and he was correct, they blew up about 50 yards down range.DSCF0080.JPG

and the image with the tail.

The barrel may be fouled.
In the past.......I've worn out one or two bronze bore brushes(in a single cleaning), to unfortunately prove that fact to myself.

Cleaning, for 17's, is unlike any other caliber round........unfortunately.

FoxMan.......

Perhaps adding Wipeout to your cleaning regimen will help.

Manufacturers, gunsmiths, etc........who ya gonna believe?? We all wonder that......from time to time.
But.......you're kinda out of options......as it's tumbling/disintegrating bullets.
Me....???? I'd clean the hell out of it.......you won't hurt it in only one cleaning.
HOWEVER.......try to NOT use JB Bore Cleaner on 17 caliber bores. Depending on how tight the wrapped brush/tight patch is......the 0.002" high lands can be worn at the throat, and bore surface finish altered(leading to worse fouling later).

Hope this helps.

Nope........

.......as I don't think they are "substantial" enough to have much of an effect on hard copper jacket/carbon fouling.
I get the impression that the felts are meant for leaded rimfire and air rifle cleaning.

When cleaning high velocity 17 caliber bores, I'm reminded of an old saying......."Nothing difficult.......is ever easy."

JMHO......
