i know you can shoot them thru a 17 cal air rifle, just wondered if anyone had tried them in a 17centerfire using just a primer..

Have not, but use them in my Beeman R10 .20 cal.
I would think you'd get primer residue if shot in a CF rifle. I might be wrong, as I've not tested them that way.

i was thinking along the lines of fire lapping
One could assume the light felt cleaning pellet would not have enough mass or friction to do any degree of lapping action in the barrel.
At one time, kits were available with two CRS plates and varying degrees of diamond grit to compress/roll the bullet of choice between the two plates to impregnate the bullet jacket with the lapping compound for fire lapping.

I've not seen these kits offered for years now, so guess they proved to be either ineffective or too much hassle in the real world. If anyone is still fire lapping, it's not evident from reading the various forums. School me if I'm wrong.

Haven't tried them. I've used tipton. There are these one's on Amazon. Good reviews.

I just use cotton buds as they are the perfect size for 17 barrels. Just cut them in half, insert the stick into the end of your 17 cal cleaning rod where the brush screws in and push through.

I use pellets to clean the carbon ring on all my guns. I use an over size like a 20cal for 17 soaked in kano Kroll oil let sit on the ring over night softens right up if its not bad twist the pellet comes right out if it is may have to use a brush and repeat.
