Gun cleaning thread

Looking for advice on chamber cleaning options. I realized this week that I don’t pay enough attention to cleaning the chambers on my rifles. Not sure I have ever used a chamber brush even on my ARs. I was cleaning a 17 hornet and thinking about the chamber. What is everyone using to clean the chambers on their rifles? I hate to admit it but I don’t even own a chamber rod.

What’s the go to for this task? What chamber mops are you using?

I use pro shot and wipe out patch out with excellerator if I'm in a hurry.
Make sure you get after the carbon ring ive found if I do every time I clean the barrel kano Kroll will do it but for a stubborn one C4.
Pro Shot does not have a bad smell.
I use chamber mops for cartridge specific depending on dia. of case no specific brand.

I use a Sinclair action cleaning kit and use it for cleaning/drying the chamber, cleaning in by the locking lugs and a good bore guide when cleaning.
Bronze brush and Butches boreshine
Since I have a lathe I patterned a few other tools off the Sinclair tool for different actions

I'll just add that I prefer the Dewey rods, even their short one for handguns. Bronze brushes, caliber specific for the beginning of the process with a mix of Shooters Choice and Kroil 60/40%, and Holland's Witches Brew and/or JB Compound for the hard to remove stuff, carbon, etc. And of course a good bore guide with a solvent port. Pro Shot spear-point jags, caliber specific also.

Also another vote for the Sinclair locking lug cleaner with the removable felt pads to get into the lugs properly. Myself and my rat shooting crew also use the Muzzle Mate can for catching all the nasty solvent soaked patches and eliminating the aerosol solvent spray from getting on the scope lens/caps, and the surrounding area. No clutter of used/dirty patches to litter up the ranchers fields either after a frisky rat shoot and lots of cleaning.

Courteous shooters get invited back. Ask me how I know.....

Thinking I'd never need it, I sold the nice, fitted 2-piece cleaning rod guide with my 6 ppc. I thought - OK, I'll just order one from Sinclair if I build another one. Oops. Well, they are apparently no longer available - can't find the chamber-specific ones in the on line Brownell catalogue. Lots of adjustable universal guides available from a number of sources. Any guidance?

Came home for a few days from working away from home. Quite a few Amazon packages with cleaning items. I will get to cleaning some chambers now that I have some better tools for it,

One of my next adventures is buying a bore guide for some of my 17 caliber rifles. I have bore guides for other rifles but not for some of the smaller chambers, I think Dewey builds a decent one. Just got to find it.

I bought a universal bore guide from brownells for 5 bucks. I had to modify it for my mossberg because of the smaller bolt chamber. Works great. I also bought the boretech 17 caliber cleaning rod. 44 inches long. Absolutely perfect for all 17 caliber rifles using a bore guide.

My gunsmith pals use PatchOut and claim it is the best carbon remover. But be sure to clean it out after use and oil the area.
As a side note, best and cheapest suppressor guts cleaner is a mix of 50/50 white vinegar and peroxide. The used potion is absolutely super toxic and always avoid contact with skin. Soak the innards of the silencer for 12 hours and rinse with water and wear rubber gloves pertaining to the used liquid.

When finished cleaning........I run a patch of Lock-Ease down the bore.
Sort of a first-shot bore conditioner.........plus helps protect the bore during short term storage.

Agree, and I've been doing the same now for some years. I only wish NAPA stores still sold the little liquid bottles of it instead of the messy spray they sell now.

The Lock-Ease really cuts down on fouling too I've noticed. Good stuff for sure.

I just checked on Amazon they have the 3.4 oz bottles I'm gonna order one and try it.
You guys that use it whats your method as far as application just a patch and let it set?
