Tree Squirrel Hunting

I was having problems with my A17 Sporter .17 WSM so I shipped it to the fine folks at Savage.

Two weeks later it was shipped to my front door and is in great operationg order. There was no charge for shipping or anything.

I removed the scope and sling before I sent it to Savage so I mounted the scope and sling back onto the rifle.

Tomorrow my brother is going with me to sight the rifle in and then we hope to pop some small game and varmints. He will be using my improved Savage BMAG .17 WSM. I replaced the ejector, bedded the stock and added 2 3/16"thickness and long threaded steel rods in the forearm to make it rock solid, and added a Glades bolt handle. I also replaced the shroud with the free update parts and centered the barrel in the forearm during the bedding. The reason for not restocking the rifle was because I wanted to keep it as a light carry. I am going to have to grind some off the Glades bolt handle to clear the scope. As of right now it contacts the scope when operating the bolt.
When I added the Glades bolt handle I had to grind the bolt slot deeper into the stock so the bolt would seat when it is in the closed position. If you add a Glades bolt handle to a BMAG, figure on doing some grinding in the bolt handle slot.

Yesterday I took my new Savage A17 ,17 WSM rifle for a trial shoot after its return from the Savage repair shop. Trial shoot was a complete failure because the trigger kept locking up. 😵‍💫

So, it is getting shipped back to Savage for them to go through it again. At least my Savage BMAG .17 WSM runs smooth and is very accurate, so I am still able to hunt.

We do here in New Zealand as well if it's a PCP or "specially dangerous" pellet gun. If it's a normal air rifle you have to be 18 to own one, but can own one without a license
Anything over 12 ft-lbs needs to be on a firearms licence in England; once they are over that, you can have them pumping out as many ft-lbs as you need. Some modern PCPs shooting slugs are incredible pieces of engineering, I'd say better in some respects than .22 rimfires. However, you will never beat the robustness and simplicity of a rimmy compared to an air rifle.

My Savage A17 has to go back again to them because now the trigger locks up. This happened during my first outing since I received it from Savage repair shop. I called them to ask for a shipping label and was informed they are closed until Jan. 5 for the holidays. Yeah, another big disappointment and no shipping label.

So yesterday I fell back on my trusty Savage BMAG .17 WSM and scored three tree squirrels, 2 grays and one fox squirrel. It's another reason I refused to sell my rifle because a fella always needs a backup plan. I did some aftermarket work on the BMAG so the fella seriously wanted the rifle.

You folks and family have the very best Christmas!

As soon as I tried my Savage A17 Sporter it failed and has to go back to Savage again. It even went full auto for two rounds. Then were many misfires and finally the trigger locked up. I don't think the rifle even fired a dozen rounds.
Today I tried to remove the shroud and it won't release. It was that way when I sent it to them. I was going to clean the rifle and try it out again before I would be forced to send it back to Savage.

At least I still have my Savage BMAG .17 WSM to fall back on. I am using it tomorrow and chase some squirrels.

I shipped my A17 back to Savage for more problems. It turned out worse than the first time I shipped it to them.

I also included a $20 bill and in the note it said I am buying lunch for anyone fixing my problems. Also included was I suggested if the rifle is a lemon, please send me a different rifle. That should attract some attention.
