Varmint pistols

Let's see your favorite varmint pistols.
I have various T/C pistols but my Competitor corp pistols are my favorite.
I have one in 243 and 223.
I do have extra barrels in 308, 7-08 and 357/44 BD.
My farthest shot with the 223 is right at 448 yards.

I guess it depends on what you call a varmint, here are some of mine. I also have a Contender or two in the small calibers and an XP100 in 17 Mach1v. Almost forgot to mention the 53 Smith, would love to bust a 'chuck with it, and the Super Redhawk in 22 Hornet is on my radar. Great idea for a post Bullseye.

Good title/subject Bullseye....a varmint pistol is different things to different people.....

For what we do here on the high desert shooting our favorite varmint, the ground squirrel in the alfalfa, a 'varmint pistol' is usually a belt gun worn or on the bench while shooting CF varmint rifles. The handgun is used for those pesky ones that pop up 10 -25 yards from the bench, daring you to shoot them. I've had the same thing happen out for pd's also. The usual caliber is HV 22LR HP's, but both 9mm and .45ACP's have been known to be deployed on the little crop-eating critters too.

Revolvers or auto's, it's all good, and one is always within reach:

I've carried a 1911 in one flavor or another since 1965 and my return to The World in 1968 carrying as a citizen. When in the rat patch, one of my 1911's gets a Kimber rimfire conversion installed on either a 5" full size, 4" Commander size, or one of my 3" carry pistols. That gives me the same trigger and manual of arms in the field for familiarity. Big fun, highly effective to boot. :)

Good point

I carry my Glock with the conversion to 22lr when out shooting PD's.

You guys are absolutely right. When we are on a 'gopher' ( Richardson Ground Squirrels) shoot there is always a handgun nearby. Often times while you are trying to reload your rifle, one will pop up just a few yards away...thats what the pistol is for...<grin>

Like many of you, I too bring along an array of trusty pistols for those occasions when a target of opportunity shows up at a relatively close range. This fun little single shot 22WMR Cricket has proven itself over and over again and is more than capable of dispatching all manner of furry creatures who dare to show up. Fun, fun.

I love this topic!!!! Basically all I shoot anymore is pistols. Revolvers and single shots. I have a 17 squirrel single six project that's been going for about a decade. A bunch of different barrels for my xp-100's. 17tcm imp is a lot of fun. 17ah is pretty good too, though it takes a little bit of messing around to get them into the chamber because of the rim. 17 fireball, 20tac, 20BR is AWESOME, 22GT, and then into 6mm's. Love em all.

Picture is my 17tcm imp.

Here's my anschutz exemplar while I was in the process of converting it to a center grip. Mike Dewey makes a conversion that fits xp-100 stocks.

You have to have a B cat license to own a pistol here and you can't hunt with it, all you can do is target shooting on a designated pistol range and there are special requirements to retain your B cat license.

Sounds a lot like Canada. Born there, left to come to the US for the freedom allowed here. Went back after the war (Vietnam), just couldn't hack the draconian laws in Canada regarding handguns and came back.

NZ is absolutely beautiful, but run by the same types as in UK, AU and Canada.....gun haters, especially the dangerous, deadly evil handguns.
At last count there was 25 of those evil things in my safe, carry one daily for personal defense. I truly feel for those under such restrictive laws elsewhere. I can only imagine the new laws AU will try to enact after the Bondi Beach event.

For those here, do NOT take our freedom for granted, it may be one generation away from disappearing if not watched (and voted on) closely.

Just like the rifles some of you posted elsewhere, these pistols make mine look pretty 'pedestrian'...I'm starting to feel inadequate! <Snork!>

I’d have to say my collection of 22LR pistols and revolvers have accounted for 99% of my varmint shooting. Summer of 86 I went through three cases of expediters in my Ruger Mark 1 6 7/8. I broke two recoil pins.

A 4 inch 22 revolver usually accompanies me on my hip on most journeys these days. I do have two specialty pistols if you will two custom shop XP 100s- a 250 Savage and 7-08.
