I wish because I'd have a dozen if I could.Does anyone make a stub kit for the Contender?

Here's a single shot - 22-250 - Ruger #1.
Happy to see TC is building Encores and Contenders again, perhaps the new owner will export them to Canada in an effort to rebuild our relationship with our northern friends. Tariffs be damned. Very happy I was able to get a s/s Lynx contender before all of this went down. May have to get another Encore too. Might check with Marty at Haus of Arms too.We can import for a fee. Not sure but I think the import fees are still around $250 per line item. Just reading in another thread online from 2025 that Eabco will ship them to Canada, Never held one so don’t know how they feel or how the triggers are etc. always thought it would be neat and easy to chamber some different calibers that aren’t as popular.
I absolutely love the #1 especially the Varmint models. I have one in .223 and 25-06, I think I need one in between thinking a Swift or 22-250 would be perfect. Yours is a beautiful example.View attachment 640

The 1885 low wall always interested me. Same as the Ruger no.1 that I had in 218 Bee but I couldn’t never get the no. 1 I had to shoot that well.
Who else has Single shots in varmint cals? Let’s see some!
I need to get my hands on an 1885 to try. Would like one in 218 beeIve owned a Ruger #1 in 22H, 22ppc ( two of them, both varmint barrel) and a 223 varmint barrel. None of them would shoot close to one moa. I had some custom triggers and tried the various forend floating and bedding, pressure point solutions, no go. I wasted a lot of money on them.
I have a newer Winchester 1885 in 22H that’s very accurate, easy sub one inch.
The Browning copy or an original?I need to get my hands on an 1885 to try. Would like one in 218 bee
Exactly same in situation in UK; very rare and doubt there’s a single one here in any but a regular caliber.A buddy and me were discussing single shots. It’s hard to get contenders and such in Canada or would try that route. Not impossible but not many dealers and then finding the odd calibers are a no go.
I've heard this about Ruger #1 & #3, why do some shoot well yet others don't?Ive owned a Ruger #1 in 22H, 22ppc ( two of them, both varmint barrel) and a 223 varmint barrel. None of them would shoot close to one moa. I had some custom triggers and tried the various forend floating and bedding, pressure point solutions, no go. I wasted a lot of money on them.

Eagle View Arms used to make an excellent kit but I think manufacturing costs got too expensive for sales.Does anyone make a stub kit for the Contender?
This is a great question. I worked on a Ruger 77v in 22-250 quite a bit to get it shooing well, sometimes I think it's just luck getting a good barrel not really sure. So far I have been lucky with the few #1s that I've gotten. I always think one day I'll send one of my#1s to that fellow Penrod in Indiana for a top notch rebarrel job, but haven't found one I'd like to use as a donor yet.I've heard this about Ruger #1 & #3, why do some shoot well yet others don't?
That's one thing I like aboot the contender is the hammer switch.Exactly same in situation in UK; very rare and doubt there’s a single one here in any but a regular caliber.
I had a Contender in 223 cal and the hammer had a switch to turn so you could change from center fire barrel to Rimfire barrels on same action.
Also had an Encore with barrels up to 30-06 and also a front stuffer barrel with it too.
Ken.
I have a 10" octagon barrel in 5mm and have shot Aquila as well as the Craig reloadable rounds. Have always wanted a 14" bull barrel too. Wondering if the new owners of TC might consider making them. Probably not much call, but if they have the tooling...That's one thing I like aboot the contender is the hammer switch.
I had Bullberry Legacy build me a barrel in 5mm Remington mag rimfire. Which I can also shoot my 5mm Craig with just a flip of the switch.
Last night I read an OLD article in Precision Shooting magazine. The author had just gotten one of the first Hornet #1s. He reported 2" and larger groups. Barrel quality? Good to hear the 1885 doesn't suffer from whatever the problem is.Ive owned a Ruger #1 in 22H, 22ppc ( two of them, both varmint barrel) and a 223 varmint barrel. Ken that was David White I believe you're thinking about. He did a lot of stubs. He rethroated a couple Contender barrels for me. He passed I think before Saubier closed down.Eagle View Arms used to make an excellent kit but I think manufacturing costs got too expensive for sales.
An advert on some of the American forums should turn an unused kit up.
I know it did when I wanted one but that was before Saubier closed the door.
There was a guy called Dave? that used to do lots of different calibers on stubs for his own use.
Ken.
Had in the back of my mid that he’d passed but couldn’t remember properly.used to enjoy his threads/posts.Ken that was David White I believe you're thinking about. He did a lot of stubs. He rethroated a couple Contender barrels for me. He passed I think before Saubier closed down.

Can't say, but that's a reasonable explanation. I shoot the 40's in my No.1V for the speed, as it's like a laser on the rats out to around 300 yards.Interesting, 40gr bt is on the light side.
Is this potentially a twist rate vs bullet or jump issue with the ones that don't shoot?
