So of the rimfires out there whats your go to cartridge.

The 17hmr seems to be one of the best for varmints imo.
Just got a Ruger single six in 17hmr. Really fun to shoot.

Then the good old 22lr is a great backup rifle or pistol even.
Think I've probably shot thousands of them in SD on Prarie dogs over the years.

Love my savage 17hmr but I’m growing real fond of a savage I just put together in 17 hm2. In my opinion the ultimate squirrel caliber. Also have a vudoo in 22lr and it shoots lights out. I guess I’m saying I like them all.
I spent a few of my early years back east and loved hunting squirrels. When the HM2 came out I figured it to be the ultimate squirrel cartridge. You have pretty much confirmed that! :)

I have a retired tricked out Savage 93 .17HMR and it is the most accurate rifle I have ever owned. My other rifles, including my two .17 WSM rifles, are very accurate. My HMR is a righthand model with a custom lefthand stock and one inch longer than the factory stock. Trigger has a Basix kit installed and trigger set on 12 OZ. It shoots one hole groups at 100 meters, witnessed. I traded some of my knife work for the stock.

Both of my Savage .17 WSM rifles are out of action. My BMAG is waiting for new ejector parts and my A17 is going back to the factory for repair because I can't get the shroud to release so I can clean the rifle.:poop:

Welp, my gunsmith pal installed a new ejector in my Savage BMAG .17 WSM so it is up and running. I am still waiting for the Savage shipping label to arrive so I can send my A17 Sporter .17 WSM to them for repair.

Tonight it is dropping down to 33F and a high of 54 tomorrow. The weather comedians say rain tomorrow morning. My brother and I are taking our .17 rifles to a local spot to sight in our scopes during the afternoon. At least my Savage BMAG .17 WSM is again up and running. 😁
All my other rifles except for my Savage A17 .17WSM are retired and held in high esteem. Here are a couple of my .17 WSM squirrels.

A near miss of mine, just a mere graze that was fatal. It's a good example of how deadly the .17 WSM is.

Remington 504 in 17 Mach 2, it was my favorite squirrel rifle when i lived in Missouri. even shot and killed a large Missouri coyote and a couple 20lb ground hogs with it.

One of my nicest rimfires is this KOO Custom Match 22lr.......

But......my favorite 22lr has to be my grandfather's Winchester Model 61 octagon barrel.......which my son called dibbs on......long ago.

Then there are the other 22's......like the Rem 40-X Sporter repeater......and Savage-Anschutz 54M(which is my across-the-pond trophy bull🐸 getter........that I use to unload/reload factory ammo for).

Great memories/stories with 22 rimfires......😎🤠
